Kogi monarch harps on constitutional role for traditional rulers

The Maigari of Lokoja, HRM, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV has urged the federal government to accord a constitutional role to traditional rulers in the country for a better impact of dividend of democracy in the present dispensation.

The Royal father disclosed this at his palace in Lokoja, the capital of kogi state to mark the end of his one year anniversary on the stool of his forefathers .

He said the time is ripe for the traditional rulers in the country to be giving more power to exercise to aide democracy to flourish smoothly in the country.

Buttressing, he stressed that the traditional rulers are most naturally acceptable leaders in every community in the nation, having the privilege of closeness to their subjects and knowing their challenges.

“Traditional rulers should be given more role to play in the present dispensation. We are working on that to evolve a document to back it up .

“Traditional rulers are accessible at the grassroots; they are privileged to notice first , every happenings in their domains . So, we demand a role for the traditional rulers for people to enjoy good things of life .

His Royal father says he felt fulfilled in the one year in office, saying, the office has made him to relate with different kinds of people in the society, particularly the vulnerable in the society.

“If you want to be a good leader , one thing at the back of your mind is religion and ethnicity should not be a barrier .

The moment you accept everyone ,honestly , you are going to achieve your goal. That was exactly what I did , my door are wide open; everyone is for me ; you can see me at any time, and be listened to”, he said .

In his bid to relate with his subjects and vulnerable, on Monday, the royal father donated drugs worth Millions of Naira to three primary health centres , (PHCs)Angwa Yashi, Angwakura and kabawa Lokoja, promising provision of more drugs and other consumables by the assistance of World Bank to the communities .

And on Tuesday, Maikarfi IV paid a Royal visit to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) , Lokoja and state Specialist hospital, Lokoja where he gifted several patients royal blessing in kinds and prayers.

“I always like to be in the midst of vulnerable people. I feel fulfilled reaching out to vulnerable and patients on their sick beds in the hospitals .

“What I saw at the hospitals during my visit is a terrifying situation. But if we can be alive, and share the little at our disposal among these kind of people, I don’t think the world will be at a problem”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Maigari of Lokoja commended the state governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo for introducing sweeping changes that have brought smiles to the face of the people in the state .

“The governor is accessible to all kind of people; he should maintain the tempo. He should come closer to the people more so that people can benefit more from his administration”, he said .

However, the title holders of the land, Suleiman Baba(Dama of Lokoja); Bala Haruna(shantali of Lokoja and Aliu jiya Lawal (Maiyaki of Lokoja) praised (HRM),Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV for raising the status and respect of the Traditional stool of the Maigari of Lokoja through improved interactions with other Traditional Rulers across the country.

Malama Amina Umar who spoke on behalf of the Primary health Care Clinic, Angwa Yashi, Lokoja, a benefiting ward commended the Royal father for his gesture , promising that the donated consumables and drugs will be judiciously used to the benefit of challenged community .
