Kogi lawmaker, 59 others bag traditional titles

The Ohinoyi of Girinya chiefdom in Koton-Karfe Local Government Council of Kogi State,  Alhaji Mohammed Ganaguda Momoh, on Saturday, turbaned a member of the House of Representatives for Lokoja-Kogi-Koton-Karfe federal constituency, Barrister Ibrahim Shaba, with traditional title of Sadauna of Girinya chiefdom.

Also turbaned with the new traditional title, include; the Assistant Director, FCT Water Board, Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim; Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashir Abubakar Gegu, as (Madugu Gabas) of Girinya chiefdom; and President of the Market Women Association, Hajiya Mommoh Gimba, among others.

Speaking at the occasion, the Dan-Iya of Girinya chiefdom, Alhaji Abdulkarim Abdulrahaman, appealed to individuals, government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to donate generously to enable the chiefdom to address some pressing challenges hampering its development.

He said the era of waiting for the government alone to provide solution to challenges facing communities had gone.

He said the chiefdom has been facing some challenges of lack of market stalls, pipe borne water as well as erosion control.

He commended the efforts of the traditional ruler in his determination to develop the area, while calling on stakeholders to continue to partner with the chiefdom with a view to promoting socio-economic activities in Girinya and environs.

Abdulrahaman, however, acknowledge some achievements recorded in the community through the support of the traditional ruler, which he said include construction of culvert, opening of layout for 300 housing unit, construction of multipurpose hall and stimulation of agricultural activities among others.

Speaking at the event, the Ohinoyi of Girinya chiefdom, Alhaji Muhammed Ganaguda Mommoh, said the chiefdom decided to confer some prominent personalities in the chiefdom with traditional title because of their immense contribution  and support they have been giving to the palace over the years.

He tasked the recipients to increase their efforts towards contributing to the development and progress of the area.

According to him, the chieftaincy title is a symbol of pride to the recipients for identification as Egbira people wherever they may find themselves.

Alhaji Mommoh, therefore, urged his subjects to continue to remain law-abiding to constituted authorities and to live in peace with one another irrespective of  ethnic, religious and political affiliations.

Alhaji Ibrahim Shaba, while speaking on behalf of the recipients of the new traditional titles,

commended the traditional ruler for identifying with him and other recipients.

He said the conferment of the title would motivate them to continue to do more for peace, unity and development of the chiefdom.
