The Kogi State government has expressed its determination to tackle the recent resurgence of kidnapping activities along the Lokoja-Okene and Okene-Kabba axis of the state.

Kogi State Security Adviser, Retired Navy Commander Jerry Omodara who gave the assurance on Friday at his Oke-Offin country home in Kabba-Bunu LGA on the sideline of a grand reception ceremony he organised in honour of Senator Smart Adeyemi, noted that the "zero kidnap" status the state had maintained since July 2015 must be sustained.

"We will deal decisively with issues of kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism. They (kidnappers) are staging a fight back but we will deal with them head-on. Kogi people should be rest assured that our number one priority is still security", he said.

Omodara said he organised the reception ceremony in honour of Senator Adeyemi because of his efforts in linking his (Omodara’s) Oke-offin community and one other village in the area to the national grid while at the National Assembly.

He described Senator Adeyemi as someone who has strong passion for the development of the people, adding that the people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency have resolved to give him their supports in his senatorial ambition come 2019.

Omodara said his people will equally give their supports to Governor Yahaya Bello and President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure their victory in the forthcoming election.

Responding, Senator Adeyemi commended Omodara and people of Oke-offin for the honour, assuring that he would continue to work for the well-being of his people if given another mandate to represent them at the Senate come 2019.

He advised the Kogi West electorate to put aside all sentiments and parochial considerations in choosing who to represent them in the forthcoming 2019 election.
