Kogi govt to introduce toll gates

The Kogi State government said plans are on to introduce toll gates for heavy duty vehicles in view of pressure such vehicles mount on the roads.

The state Commissioner for Works, Engr Sadiq Abdulmumuni stated this in Lokoja during a ministerial press briefing organised by the Kogi State Bureau of Information Services and Grassroots Sensitisation in partnership with the Kogi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He pointed out that roads in the state have continued to experience heavy pressures daily given that the state is gateway connecting many states and also host to the Dangote Cement Company in Obajana.

According to him, the only way to maintain the roads is to generate revenue through toll gates, a matter which the state has discussed with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

Abdulmumuni said that state was determined to complete all the 25 road projects it has embarked upon across the three senatorial districts. He attributed the slow pace of works on some the road projects to paucity of funds, noting that activities were expected to resume in earnest on the projects in the weeks ahead.
