Kogi gov’ship: SDP, APC clash over premature celebration of S/Court ruling

As the Supreme Court looks into the November 11 Kogi State governorship election matter, tension is already escalating between the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with the parties accusing each other of prematurely celebrating victory even though the court is yet to commence proceedings.

The SDP Campaign Council accused the Kogi State Government of celebrating an alleged victory in the ongoing gubernatorial case.

In a statement issued by Isaiah Ijele Davies, spokesman for the Muri/Sams SDP Campaign Council, the party expressed concern over what it termed an untimely celebration by senior government officials and APC supporters.

The SDP alleged that on Tuesday, August 6, APC supporters took to social media to celebrate a purported victory in the case.

According to the statement, “This celebration, which included the dissemination of placards and graphics congratulating Ahmed Usman Ododo of the APC, occurred even though the Supreme Court has yet to officially commence its sitting on the matter.”

In response, the Director of Media and Publicity for the Ododo/Oyibo APC Campaign Council, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, dismissed the SDP claims, accusing the party of spreading fake news whenever court judgments are pending.

He further criticised the SDP for engaging in propaganda and sensationalism, asserting that the APC believes in the rule of law while their opponents resort to falsehood.

“Our party is not interested in participating in the grave of lies, blackmail, propaganda, sensationalism, and the celebration of falsehood,” Fanwo said.
