Kogi gov’ship: CLO threatens to sue Gov Bello over violence

Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has threatened to sue Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State at the International Criminal Court following the spate of violence that has been occurring in parts of the state ahead of the November 11 governorship election.

Speaking with newsmen Tuesday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, the director of the organisation, Steve Aluko, said their decision has become necessary as the electoral violence in Kogi State over the years has cost many lives and the destruction of property.

The director said most of the political violence in the state intensified under Governor Bello’s watch, and that they were mostly against the opposition parties.

He said the political violence is becoming unprecedented in the history of the country,  explaining that Governor Bello must account for all the violence that has occurred under him as the chief security officer of the state.

In addition to their plan to drag Governor Bello to the ICC, they are also pushing for a visa ban against all those culpable in the Kogi political violence and urged the United States of America, Europe, China, and other Asian countries to act accordingly so that it would serve as a deterrent to others.
