Over 60 communities in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State have been submerged by flood.
Weekend Trust reports that Ibaji is one of the LGAs in the state which faces devastating flood annually.
Speaking on the disaster, the Ibaji Flood Plains Multipurpose Cooperative Society (IFPMPCS), called on the Kogi State Government to take immediate action, as over 60 communities in the area are now flooded.
Chairperson of the IFPMPCS Executive Committee, Prof Joy Ede Ukoje, made the plea during a press briefing in Lokoja.
She stressed the urgent need for intervention, including the creation of a disaster relief fund to support the affected communities and mitigate the impact of the flooding on residents.
According to Ukoje, the scale of flooding in Ibaji and other areas along the bank of the River Niger has surpassed the state government’s capacity to manage effectively.
