Kogi East APC senatorial aspirant alleges intimidation, threats

Ahead of today’s rescheduled All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election in Kogi, an aspirant for Kogi East Senatorial ticket, Prince Yahaya Audu has raised the alarm over an alleged intimidation and threats to his life.

Special Adviser to Audu on Political Matters, Solomon Agada told Daily Trust on Wednesday that his principal and supporters have been facing a lot of intimidation and harassment from government officials allegedly working for one of the aspirants.

According to him, thugs have been allegedly imported from within and outside the senatorial district to unleash mayhem on the aspirant and his supporters with a view to harassing him out of the contest.

He expressed concerns that the earlier promised made by Governor Yahaya Bello that level playing field would be provided for all aspirants was not being upheld.

Agada therefore, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, the national leadership of the APC and the National Security Adviser to wade in and ensure all aspirants have a level playing field and secured environment to take part in the exercise.

According to him, Prince Yahaya Audu was being harassed and intimidated because of his popularity amongst the people.

Reacting, Chief Press Secretary to the Kogi State Governor, Mrs Petra Onyegbule debunked the allegations, saying the governor had zero tolerance for violence and would not intimidate any aspirant.

According to her, Governor Yahaya Bello had earlier expressed his commitment of ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants.

She said the primary election was purely an affair being conducted by the party and not the state government.
