The Kogi state government has declared a seven-day mourning and one day public holiday in honour of the late first civilian governor of the state, Prince Abubakar Audu who died at his country home Ogbonicha on Sunday.
Audu who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in last Saturday election in the state died after a brief illness.
The state Governor, Capt. Idris Wada in a state broadcast to convey the condolences of of the state to the family of the deceased former governor said that there will be skeletal government activities during the seven days mourning period.
Wada described the sudden demise of his former counterpart and political rival as shocking saying that he will ever be remembered for his developmental strides in the state during his six years rule of the state.
Tthere had been uneasy calm in Kogi state following the passing on of the late prince Abubakar Audu at the peak of the realization of his ambition to return to Lugard House as governor of the state.
