The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State on Wednesday adopted the indirect primary option ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The state Chairman of APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, who spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja, said the party adopted indirect primaries option because it is cheap, credible and easy to conduct.

Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole has earlier moved the motion for the adoption of the indirect primary method which was unanimously approved by other party stakeholders.

Kolawole said the direct primary election can only throw the party into confusion, saying the indirect method was more appropriate for the party in the state based on the political environment.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi said he has not anointed any candidate and urged aspirants seeking for various elective positions on the platform of APC to go ahead to obtain forms.

He assured that the party will sponsor all the candidates for the general election to ensure that APC wins the contestable positions.

“I have never anointed any aspirants for any position. Forms are already on sales, all interested member of the party who are willing to contest elective positions on the platform of APC in Kogi state should go and buy their forms. The party will create a level-playing ground for all the aspirants so that we can achieve our set objectives”, he said

He cautioned the party’s executives in Kogi state against extorting money from aspirants in the name of “rendering assistance” to them, warning that whoever indulged in such act would be sanctioned.
