Kinsmen of Governor Dapo Abiodun in Remoland, Ogun State, have condemned the presidential aspirant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s outburst on the governors, describing it as derogatory and uncultured.
Tinubu had on Thursday told Abiodun how he made him Ogun State Governor.
He spoke at presidential lodge in Abeokuta, the state capital, while addressing the APC delegates ahead of the party’s primaries.
Governor Abiodun had openly endorsed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s candidature. Osinbajo hails from Ikenne in Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
Tinubu who was apparently dissatisfied with Abiodun’s endorsement of Osinbajo, took a swipe at the governor.
“It has been over 25 years now that I have been serving them. Eleyi (this one) sitting behind me, Dapo, can he say he can be the Governor without me? We were together at the MKO Abiola stadium, he was intimated, they didn’t want to give the party’s flag, I was the one that handed the flag to him. He knows that he cannot be the governor without the help of God and my support.
“If he wants to meet God at the right place, he must know that without God and me, he would not have become Governor,” he said.
Abiodun, however, played down Tinubu’s dress-down remarks at the event, but the development had earned former Lagos Governor more knocks from the state.
A group of Youths from Remoland have come hard on Tinubu over what they called uncultured remarks on the governor.
The youth under the aegis Remo Youth Association, said Tinubu’s outburst was mere politics of bitterness, which should not be encouraged.
The Chairman of the group, Yaya Onagbesan noted that referring to Abiodun as ‘Eleyi’, by Tinubu, demeaned the personality of the governor who is “a refined gentleman.”
“Remo Youth Association stands for no political party, nevertheless we won’t fold our arms to see anyone rubbish any of our Leaders from Remoland. It is important I let you know that the Youths of Remoland are resolute to protect and support any of our Sons or Daughters occupying or aspiring for any leadership position across Nigeria and in diaspora.
“Therefore, it totally uncalled for a presumed elder statesman like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to have referred to our kinsman and the incumbent Governor of our State as ‘Eleyi,’ which literally demeans the personality of a refined gentleman our Governor is known for” Onagbesan said.
The Chairman warned politicians against rubbishing any of their Leaders from Remoland.
“Such distasteful action will no longer be acceptable or condoned regardless of the status of the source. Needless to say that it is God that gives power and no mortal should ever assume the position of God.
“May be I need to remind them that from inception, Ogun State, having produced great people like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Pa Abraham Adesanya, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief MKO Abiola among others, is known as the land of intellectuals who has also raised several national and globally acclaimed Leaders.
“We urge the Youths and Elders of Remoland to continue display the high sense of moral and leadership that Remo people are notable for,” Onagbesan said.
