The former labour leader made the revelation in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State at a public lecture on the significance of the election in the history of the country in honour of the late MKO Abiola, organized by the state government.

Bafyau, a major player in the June 12th, 1993 imbroglio, said Abiola had a pact with top military officers that he (Bafyau) should be made running mate, but Abiola did not fulfil his promise because he had pressure from the SDP governors then, who stood their ground that Kingibe be made running mate.

According to him, the military officers were willing to hand over government then to a trusted person like Abiola, but the development at that time made the former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida lead the Supreme Military Council to annul the election.

Bafyau, who was the NLC President at that critical period, noted that the action of the late MKO Abiola, not to honour the agreement to make him the running mate, portrayed Abiola as somebody who could not be trusted by the military oligarchy.
