Kidnapping: Old students move to provide security for Methodist school

The Old Students of the Methodist High School, Ibadan under the banner of Methodist High School Old Students Association, at the weekend disclosed that due to the recent and incessant kidnapping and other forms of insecurity in the country, some security measures will be put in place for the students of the school.

The President of the 1984 set of the school, Mr. Moruf Rasaq who stated this during the reunion and presentation of Information Communication Technology Centre (ICT) centre and borehole to the school, at the school premises said the old students will meet with the principal of the school to fathom the modalities to make the students more secure.

“With the hint of the head boy on the security challenges in the school, we will talk to the principal to know the aspect of security he was talking about. You will agree with me that security is a large thing. We want to know if there was attack in the school or he was referring to the incessant kidnapping in the country or we need to provide a bus for the students so that it can make the minds of the parents more relax. But we are going to provide security for them,” he said.

The principal of the school, Mrs. Oriowo Abosede also urged the old students to support the school with school bus for security reasons.

She said; “The 1984 set of this great school are here for reunion and donation of ICT Centre with borehole to the school. They brought someone to sensitize and encourage them on how they will be responsible in future. Most of the old students are doing fine in donating to the school.”

On the security challenges, she said; “Most parents are taking their children away from the school maybe because of the expressway. So we wants to beg the old students to give us buses to take our students home. If the buses are there the parents will be at peace. Their minds will be at rest that their children are safe. We need buses that can take the children from all part of the Ibadan city to school. That will alley the fear of crossing the expressway.”

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan Southwest/Northwest federal constituency, Adedeji Stanley promised huge improvement in the school soon.

He noted “We are going to pay a special attention to education. 10 percent of the budget in the state must go to education. We have appointed somebody with a good pedigree as the chairman of SUBEB. We are going to bring all the public schools to the standard. The country has failed in one side which has put a lot of burdens on the old students but as old students of the school, you will see huge improvement in the school soon“
