The Committees of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities, the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities and the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities Sunday urged the federal government to deploy a special squad to university campuses to curb kidnapping.
They made the call in a joint statement in view of the recent kidnapping of some staff of the University of Abuja and family members.

The statement, signed by the chairmen of the three committees, Emeritus Prof. Nimi Briggs, Yusuf Ali and Prof. Samuel Edoumiekumo, also asked the government to provide jointly manned roadblocks on inter-city highways adjacent to institutions of higher learning.
They also asked that institutions be provided with funds to construct perimeter fencing in order to address the porous nature of security as well as funds to procure necessary security gadgets that would improve the security architecture of the campuses.
They demanded that the sanctity and serenity of the campuses of educational institutions be accorded topmost priority.
