Kidnappers open fire on residents chasing them in Plateau

Two residents of Durbi village, Shere District in Jos East Local Government area of Plateau State, have been shot dead while chasing kidnappers.

The assailants, according to residents, opened fire on the people chasing them from their hideout.

Many others were said to have sustained injuries in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Peter Inyam and Arin Kaze.

A resident said “the incident happened around 11am on Friday when a farmer went to pluck some olives and sighted some gunmen on hills.

“He  ran back home and informed the community about what was happening and the community quickly mobilised to the hills to chase them.

“It was in the process two of the villagers were killed. ”

Hon. Ishaku Ayuba Ajang, deputy chairman of Jos East LGA, described the incident as unfortunate.

He added that security personnel had been mobilised to ensure law and order in the area.

ASP Ubah Gabriel, the spokesman of the State Police Command, didn’t respond to the call and SMS sent to him by our correspondent.
