Kidnappers of ex-US soldier demand N20m ransom

Kidnappers, who abducted a retired United State of America army officer, Major Jide Ijadare, in Ekiti State have demanded the sum of N20 million as ransom to release him.

The gunmen abducted Ijadare and one of his staff members at Ijan Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government, on Tuesday at his palm oil factory located along the Ijan/Ise road, where they also killed one person identified as a contractor.

A member of the Ijadare family, who confirmed the kidnappers’ demand on Wednesday in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said the abductors had contacted a family member and demanded N20m as ransom.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, however, said the Command was not aware of any ransom being demanded by the abductors, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Babatunde Mobayo, had deployed different units of police operatives to the factory and the surrounding forests.

Abutu assured the victims’ relatives that the abductees would be released safe and in good health and appealed to the public

to give the police useful information that would help to fish out the abductors.
