“They have contacted the family and are demanding N5 million ransom for his release,” the source said.

It was further gathered that the local vigilante in collaboration with security agents are combing the bush to ensure his release.

Moreso, it was learnt that Aigbogun, 54, who is the APC Chairman of Ugo Ward 9 was kidnapped on Monday, at Ologbo-nugu Community on his way from the farm.

The assailant stormed out of the bush and forced the victim’s vehicle to a halt at gunpoint and whisked him away.

Daily Trust gathered that the area has been endangered by gunmen who constantly kidnap people on the road and on their farms.

A member of the community, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, a former publicity secretary of the APC, called on the police to ensure the release of the victim.

The Edo state command spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, when contacted confirmed the incident but didn’t confirm the demand for ransom.

Chidi said the command’s Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit have embarked on bush combing with the aim of rescuing the victim unhurt and possible arrest or decimation of the suspected kidnappers.

He urged the people to remain calm in order not to jeopardize efforts to rescue the victim and the possible arrest of the kidnappers.
