Operatives of Ogun Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers while trying to pick up a ransom on a 7-year-old boy they abducted.

The suspects, Muhammed Abubakar, 42, and Clinton Niche, 18, were apprehended on Sunday following a report lodged at Agbara Area command in Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area by one Stephen Ajibili.

The complainant told the police that his seven-year-old son, Daniel Ajibili was abducted by unknown persons while he was sent on an errand by his mother.

He said the abductors called him and demanded N1 million ransom for his son.

The police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Monday, told newsmen in Abeokuta that following the report, the acting area commander Agbara, CSP Kayode Shedrack, mobilised his detectives to go after the hoodlums.

He said efforts of the detectives paid off when the suspects who had directed the victim’s parents to drop the ransom money somewhere were ambushed and arrested by the police.

Oyeyemi said the suspects subsequently led the policemen to a bush where they had tied the young boy to a tree.

“On interrogation, the suspects informed the police that they were three in number but the remaining member of their gang was the person watching over their victim while they went to collect the ransom.

“Having discovered that his two accomplices had been arrested, he fled,” the PPRO said.

Oyeyemi said the suspects would be transferred to the anti-kidnapping section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

He also said the fleeing member of the gang would be trailed, arrested and brought to justice.
