Kidnappers kill victim after collecting N1.5m ransom in Kaduna

Auwal Rabiu a youth leader was killed but late Sani Khalil was whisked away by the kidnappers.

Suspected kidnappers have killed one Sani Khalil after collecting N1.5 million in ransom in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Daily Trust reported that the victim and his two friends were attacked in November 2020 along Rigasa-Link road.

Auwal Rabiu a youth leader was killed while one other was injured but  late Sani Khalil was whisked away by the kidnappers.

A resident of the area and neighbour to the victim who identified himself as Abdul’azeez Madugu ( Dan Dubai)  confirmed the killing.

“They killed him after collecting N1.5 million ransom. It was his family and friends that contributed the money. After it was delivered to them in the bush, they still killed him. He was a big brother to me.

“We have not seen his dead body because we are all afraid to go to the bush to pick the body. So, a special funeral was performed for him at his family house around 11:am Saturday,” he said.

The state Commissioner Ministry for Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan confirmed the killing of the young man in a statement issued on Saturday.

He said late Sani Khalil was killed having been held for almost two weeks but the commissioner didn’t mention whether ransom was paid to the kidnappers as claimed or not.

In another development, Aruwan said the military and police on Friday night foiled an attack by armed bandits in Kasuwan Magani community, Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State.

He said the armed bandits shot one Alhaji Ahmadu Suleiman, a Fulani leader in the area but he survived with bullet wounds and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Kaduna.

He explained that the situation caused pandemonium in the community, triggering fake stories across social media of ethno-religious crisis in the area.

He said the  State Government in a swift reaction hosted a confidence-building meeting where critical stakeholders, including religious, traditional, and community leaders were engaged.
