Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has urged the military and other security agencies to intensify surveillance in bordering communities in the ongoing counterinsurgency and other security operations in the state.
Buni stated this on the Christmas Luncheon organized by the Chief of Army Staff for frontline troops in Buni Gari, Gujba LG of the State.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation Hon. Aji Yarema Bularafa, said the troops should intensify surveillance and clearance operations in Yunusari, Geidam, Gujba and other Local Government Areas bordering Borno state to check possible surprises by the insurgents.
He added that all gaps in deployment should be filled to avoid providing opportunities to the insurgents to infiltrate the border communities.
According to him, as the insurgency is currently on the decline, there are new threats to security such as kidnapping and criminal extortion of innocent citizens in the State.
In his remark, Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Ejike, said the Nigerian Army has evidently recorded tremendous successes in the ongoing war on insurgency in the region.
