Police operatives in Bode Sadu axis of Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State have recovered guns, ammunition and money believed to be ransom during a ‘stop-and-search’ operation.
It was gathered that the suspect who was on a Bajaj motorcycle ran into the bush after sighting the police officers who had flagged him down.
Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Okasanmi Ajayi said a search of the bag tied to the motorcycle “revealed some ammunition and money”.
“Two AK-47 rifles, seven empty magazines, fifty rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, three Techno handsets, eleven telephone handset batteries, criminal charms, clothes and the sum of N255,000”, suspected to be payment for ransom were recovered after the search,” Okasanmi said.
He added that efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect “Strongly believed to be one of the kidnappers operating around the border towns of Ekiti, Kogi and Kwara states” were ongoing.
According to him, the development was the outcome of the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama’s resolve to rid the state of kidnappers and their gangs operating along the axis.
