Kidnapped market women regain freedom

Some market women who were kidnapped last weekend along Akure-Owo road in Ondo State have regained their freedom.

They include the Iyaoloja of Isua Akoko, Chief Mrs Hellen Edward and other Akoko South East Local Government officials who were said to have come to Akure for a meeting when their vehicle ran into the kidnappers at Uso area, along the busy Owo-Akure road.

The sum of N5 million ransom was said to have been paid to secure their release.

A top local government official confirmed that they were released in Owo area.

Contacted, spokesman for the Ondo State police command, Tee-Leo Ikoro, said he had no information concerning the matter, especially on those released.

He promised to get back to our correspondent as soon as he had information on the matter

It would be recalled that 16 persons, including market women, a driver and local government officials were kidnapped while the police command claimed that 10 of the captives were rescued by  the police  and other security operatives from other sister agencies.

It also said four of the kidnappers have been arrested.
