Kidnapped Edo lecturer escapes from captivity

The kidnapped lecturer of the Ambrose Alli, University, Ekpoma, Prof. Monday Igbafe, has escaped from the kidnappers’ captivity in Edo State.

The state police’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed the escape in an interview with City & Crime.

He said, “The command is aware of the report. Operatives of the Ekpoma division mounted pressure on the kidnappers, which led to the escape of the victim.

“We are on the trail of the suspects to ensure they are brought to book.”

Prof. Igbafe, who is the Benin Zonal Coordinator of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), was kidnapped by gunmen at gun point at about 9pm on Saturday, in Ekpoma, Esan West LGA of the state.

It was gathered that Igbafe was driving into his residence at Ekpoma when the gunmen accosted him.

The gunmen were said to have drove him away to unknown destination inside his ash-coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number ABJ 180 JQ.

It was gathered that after the kidnapping, operatives of the Ekpoma division commenced bush combing, leading to the escape of the victim.
