The kidnapped Adamawa All Progressives Congress (APC) official has regained freedom, the police confirmed.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa, Othman Abubakar, a superintendent disclosed the development in a chat with Daily Trust yesterday.

He said Hamisu Mijinyawa, the APC chairman in Demsa Local Government Area had been freed by his captors but the police spokesman could not confirm if ransom was paid.

Armed men had attacked the house of the APC chieftain in Demsa area early morning  on Wednesday and forced him to go with them before demanding for N20 million ransom.

The incident occurred some hours before the flag off of Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla’s campaign for 2019 re-election in the town.

Following the incident, an official of the state chapter of the party, Mark Dauda confirmed that negotiation had been in progress with the kidnappers over N20 million ransom demand.

Another official, Ahmad Lawan, who is the APC organising secretary in Adamawa, had said the party was worried about the incident, describing it as unfortunate.

There has beenan  increase in rate of kidnappings in the state in recent years. Among the victims was a professor working with Modibbo  Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) Yola.
