The wife of late Sir Kashim Ibrahim (First Republic Governor of Northern Nigeria), Lady Khadijah, died yesterday in Kaduna. She has since been buried there.
Born to the Libyan Ahmed Metedden family of Borno, Lady Khadijah was amongst the first of Northern women to receive Western Education. She was knighted along with her husband, Sir Kashim Ibrahim in 1957 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
In her late life, Lady Khadijah devoted her time to family and public affairs. She encouraged and supported education, especially for the girl child. She, also encouraged educated girls into marriage, and mentored them into strong, cohesive family life, according to religion and culture.
Lady Khadijah is survived by YaFati Magaji Inuwa (the widow of late Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim); Arc Mohammed Kashim, the Shettima of Borno; younger sister, Hajiya Inna Dasuki, younger brother, Ambassador Lameen Metedden; and by her grandchildren, Hajiya Khadijah Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Minister of State Foreign Affairs, as well as by Arc (Mrs) Amsa AbdulRazaq, the founder of Regent Schools (primary, secondary, college), Abuja, and her husband, Mallam Isiaka AbdulRazaq, GED (Finance) NNPC. She also left behind two co-wives of Sir Kashim, and several great-grandchildren.
