Bernard Sang of Kenya and Urisa Kebene of Ethiopia have won the 9th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in both the men’s and women’s 42km race categories.
Sang began the race from Surelere yesterday morning outran over hundreds of marathoners to breast the tape at 2 hours, 16 minutes and 53 seconds at the checkpoint in Eko Atlantic City.
He left behind Silas Cheprot of Kenya who finished second at 2 hours, 16 minutes and 54 seconds.
It was all Kenya within the 1st to 3rd as Godfrey Birger of Kenya finished third with 2 hours, 17 minutes and 43 seconds.

The winner, Sang smiled home with a grand prize of $50,000 while the second and third received $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
In the women’s category, Urisa Kebene who finished second position at the last edition emerged as first woman to cross the finish line at 2 hours, 41 minutes and one second.
The second was Ruth Aga of Kenya who finished 2 hours, 41 minutes and 41 seconds and Kenya’s Sharon Cherop in third place with 2 hours, 42 minutes and zero seconds.
In the male category, Adamu Sheu Mauza emerged as the first Nigerian to finish at 2 hours, 29 minutes 20 and 17 seconds to finish at the 17th position.
The second was Nyango Gyany Boi who ended 2 hours, 30 minutes and 21 seconds at the 18th position, while Friday Yohana finished at 3 hours, :21 minutes at the 22nd position.
The race started from Surulere, enroute Town planning, to Oworonshoki covering 15km of the race. The athletes fired more from Oworonshoki to the Third Mainland bridge down to Igbosere to make 35km of the race.
From Igbosere, they sprinted to Victoria Island to make a total of 42km race.
