Keep off polling stations, Zamfara CP warns Hizbah, vigilantes

The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara state, Mr Celestine Okoye has warne , the state Hizbah members and the local vigilantes to keep off polling booths across the state.

He said all unauthorized persons would not be allowed at the polling units and they are advised to stay away.

Okoye gave the warning at the command’s headquarters in Gusau during the signing of peace accord by governorship candidates for the Saturday election.

Mr Celestine Okoye said that the command would deal ruthlessly with anyone who breaches or disrupts election in the state.

“The command has reviewed its security strategies to contend with cases of election violence such as political thuggery, snatching of ballot boxes, use of offensive weapons, hate speeches and any conduct likely to disrupt the process”, he warned.

Okoye added that the command had also reinforced its intelligence gathering mechanism and techniques to have an early warning signal for quick response to distress calls.

“I want to send a warning signal you all criminal elements who may wish to perpetrate devilish act, to avoid such actions for a new life or face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

He appealed to people of the state to remain law abiding and cooperate with security agencies to provide adequate security and protection for the conduct of free, fair, credible and nonviolent election.

In his response, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, tasked the security agencies to be neutral in their official duties to ensure that peace is achieved during and after the elections.

He commended the Police Commissioner for taking some proactive measures during the Presidential/National Assembly elections.

The signing of the agreement was attended by more than 30 governorship candidates.
