The Commissioner for Science and Technical Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Ruwa, made the statement on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
Ruwa said that although corps members posted to the state currently used the polytechnic premises as orientation camp, certain structures needed to be put in place in the campus.
“The NYSC had requested for extension of time within which the construction of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp would be completed. We are now in July and before the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp is ready, the state government needs to upgrade the polytechnic structures to meet standards. The laboratories need to be upgraded and the state government will construct more workshops to meet the required standard,” the commissioner said.
On the compensation for the polytechnic site, Ruwa said payment of compensation had commenced to the land owners. He said that the ministry and traditional rulers in the area had cautioned farmers against planting on the land.He did not, however, disclose the amount paid as compensation to the land owners.
