Kebbi motorcyclists pray against attacks

Members of Kebbi State Association of Commercial Motorcycle Riders of Nigeria (ACOMMORAN), have converged on Birnin Kebbi metropolis Eid ground for special prayer against armed robbers that are terrorizing them.

The ACOMMORAN members, otherwise called Yan Achaba, had to resort to prayers to seek for divine intervention against the killing of their members as well as the unprecedented theft of commercial motorcycles in the state.

The motorcyclists were killed by thier assaitants to dispossess them of their motorcycles.

Chairman of the state chapter of ACOMMORAN, Nafiu Zaki, told Caliphate Trust that within the last three weeks three of his members were gruesomely killed by armed robbers who dispossessed them of their motorcycles while one other was also killed in similar circumstance about three months ago.

According to him, more than 60 motorcycles were stolen this year and that in the process, the majority of the owners who attempted to resist being robbed were left with various degree of injuries.

“In the last three weeks alone, we lost three of our members while in April one was also killed. Our members lost over 60 motorcycles to armed robbers this year. We have resorted to special prayer for God intervention,” he said.

He said the security agencies were doing their best to ameliorate the situation and holding the prayer session was meant to reinforce their efforts.

Zaki said some years back his members witnessed similar situation but after resorting to special prayers, the activities of the criminals.

He explained that his association, which has about 4000 registered members, was always confronted with a lot of challenges including the activities of non-registered members in the metropolis.

Zaki said that personnel of some security agencies and other civil servants operate as commercial motorcyclists but hardly cooperate with the union since they work part-time.

“We have over 3600 registered members in the metropolis. The security for our members could have been more effective had it been it is only our members plying the road as commercial motorcyclists. But if you go out there you can see all manners of people operating as commercial motorcyclists.”
