Kebbi creates database of unemployed youths

The Kebbi State Government has launched a Data Capture Portal to boost employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.

The portal was launched by the state Ministry for Information and Communication Technology to enable the government to capture the statistics of unemployed youths.

It will help them to benefit from the various federal government jobs interventions as well as from other development partners.

The State ICT Commissioner, Abdullahi Magoro, said the gesture was part of the state government effort for improving on manpower development saying, the portal was meant for collating data of all educated and uneducated unemployed youths.

Magoro said: “We have in the past conducted registration exercises like those of N-Power and NYIF. With this portal the majority of the youths will benefit.

“We have made arrangements with some designated business centres in all local government areas and internet cafes for the uneducated youths to register.

“Their data will then be uploaded into the portal, the idea is that they too can benefit when the opportunities for such jobs and interventions come,” he explained.

The Waziri of Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, commended the state government for the initiative saying it will reduce unemployment to a larger extent in the state.

Umar said youths are the backbone of any society therefore, no effort to provide employment opportunities for them could be regarded as too much.

He also urged the youths not to miss the chance through the portal opening.
