Kebbi abduction: Parents selling properties to offset N100m ransom

Parents of the remaining 11 abducted female students of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State have put their properties and other valuables up for sale to meet the sum of N100 million ransom being demanded by the abductors of their daughters.

The 11 female students whose age range between 12 and 16 have been in the custody of their abductors for the past 20 months.

They are demanding N100 million before the girls can be released.

The parents under the platform of Committee of Parents of 11 Abducted Female Students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri at a press briefing by its chairman, Salim Kaoje on Wednesday appealed for financial assistance from the general public, spirited individuals and organisations to secure the release of the female students that had been held by the bandits since 17th of June, 2021.

Kaoje said they had exhausted every effort to negotiate with the bandits and get government’s intervention and support which yielded no success.

He said the parent’s movement established contact with Dogo Gide on 15th of December last year with the help of his mother.

“Initially, he rejected any attempt to negotiate with us, but after his mother intervened, he agreed to release our children on condition that we pay N100m ransom, otherwise we would never see our children again.

“This is why each of the parents have resolved to sell whatever they own, including landed property and other valuables to augment what they will be able to raise from the appeal fund,” said Kaoje.
