The Joint Action Congress (JAC) of Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure, Jigawa state has issued a 3-week ultimatum to the management of the institution to either address the numerous problems affecting the institution or face industrial action.
The congress, which comprised of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic (SSNIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), said the ultimatum starts from February 25, 2019.
The ultimatum was contained in a communiqué, jointly signed by ASUP, NASU and SSANIP’s Chairmen, Danladi Adali Tonga, Fararu Ahmed Adamu and Nura Shehu Gaya respectively.
The congress itemised eleven challenges that are affecting both students and staff of the institution for many years.
The communiqué indicated that some of the pressing issues alleged to have been affecting the institution by the congress include neglecting extent government circular in treating staff issues, lack of adequate supply of electricity and water in the institution and lack of functional utility vehicle for the smooth running of official engagements.
The congress also expressed sadness on the general staff welfare, staff training, noting that the management of the institution had stopped sponsoring its staff for training.
“It is also unfortunate that the management of the institution is silent about the implementation of CONTISS 15 migration for lower cadres which was started but stopped abruptly without any cogent reason.
“The congress is also unhappy with the management of the institution over non-payment of backlog of duty tour allowance to staff for the past three years,” the communiqué noted.
The congress which also expressed concern over non-provision of consumables for students’ practical, lamented that the development is affecting the students’ performance.
The congress therefore, urged the management of the institution to either address the aforementioned problems or face strike action by the members of the three associations.
