Katsina youths launch Kakaaki Africa project

By Linda Ifeachor

Some youths in Katsina state have launched a project they call Kakaaki Africa to improve on civic leadership drive in the state.

Speaking at the project launch, the founder of Kakaaki Africa Project, Ismail Bello said “In Katsina, eight out of 10 youths lack access to civic leadership, social innovation and community development skills that will help them spur sustainable grassroots development and lifelong social development that will create economic prosperity and positive change.”

He said due to lack of these skills, many youths have been wrongly influenced to engage in social menaces such as stealing and kidnapping, “instead of creating real-time development opportunities to ignite social change within their communities.”

Through the Kakaaki Africa project, youths will pass through a civic leadership development programme that will combine both offline and online learning models to inspire, empower, and ignite the next generation of young leaders within the grassroots areas.

“We will be promoting development of civil leadership, social innovation, design thinking, and community development skills among young people,” Bello noted.

The organisers also said the project will promote access to electoral advocacy and awareness on youth participation in politics and governance among young people.
