Katsina Utd hunt down Enyimba’s Elephants in rescheduled NPFL clash

Katsina United Wednesday defeated Enyimba 2-1 in a rescheduled matchday 12 of 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture.

The game played at the Muhammadu Dikko stadium, Katsina saw the hosts flying out of the blocks to make a huge a statement.

From the blast of the whistle, the defending champions kicked off with intensity, creating several chances in the opening minutes but in the 25th minute, Katsina United opened the scoring through Michael Okoro Ibe to stun the visitors.

With the first half looking to end with Enyimba losing, Chijioke Mbaoma restored parity to give the visitors some glimer of hope as it ended 1-1.

Upon resumption of the second half, Enyimba’s assistant coach, Olanrewaju Yemi made some tactical changes with Innocent Gabriel and Erugo Adiele replacing Uwana Asuquo and Izuogu Chibueze with the desire to avenge last season loss.

It will be recalled Katsina United secured a narrow victory against Enyimba during their last meeting in 2022.Abdul Taofeek netted the only goal of the game.

Unfortunately, these changes didn’t work out well as Katsina United took the lead in the 73rd minute through Andrew Idoko.

At this point, Enyimba put up everything in their arsenal to force a draw at least failed as Katsina United held theit ground firmly to secure all maximum points.

Enyimba despite the loss are fifth on the table with 29 points while Katsina United are eighth with 26 points.

Meanwhile, Lobi Stars are top of the table with 33 points while Heartland are back again in the relegation zone placed 20th with 16 points.
