Katsina United have made known their intention to bounce back to Nigeria’s topflight after they thrashed City FC of Abuja 3-0 in yesterday’s opening match of Group A2 of the 2023 Nigeria National League (NNL) abridged season.

Nigeria’s former junior international, Nazifi Yahaya, was the hero for the home side as he scored a brace to propel the ‘Chanji boys’ to a convincing win in the match played at the Muhammadu Dikko stadium Katsina.

The former Kano Pillars man assisted by Mustapha Salisu put Katsina United ahead as early as the 15th minute with an exquisite finish and efforts by the visitors to level scores proved abortive as the half ended 1-0.

On resumption, Yahaya continued from where he stopped as he doubled Katsina United’s lead in the 57th minute of the second half.

Sanusi Abdulmatallif then put the ice on the cake with the third goal in the 59th minute as Katsina United cruised to victory.

In a post match interview, the stand-in coach of Katsina United, Bishir Sadauki, attributed the victory to his pep talk and change of mentality on the part of the players.

He said “We were relegated to the NNL last season so we are not yet used to the style of play in the lower league. The league is more physical than tactical.

“So, during half time, I charged the boys to be more physical in their approach and that was why we got two additional goals in the second half.”

Coach Saduki who asked for support and prayers from the teeming fans of the club assured that Katsina United would return to the NPFL at the end of the season.

In the other Group A2 match, NAF FC Abuja were held to a 1-1 draw by Jigawa Golden Stars.
