Sunday Trust reports that the federal government has allocated 20 slots to the state through the Christians pilgrim welfare board for intending pilgrims from the state to enable them perform the pilgrimage.
Speaking when he received the management of the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board at the government house, Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema said he is  aware of his responsibility as a leader and  Islam teaches that once you are a leader you must be fair and equitable to all those you lead regardless of, religion, color or ethnicity.
According to him, Nigeria is a blessed nation which came together by act of God and not by accident saying that ‘‘God put us together and he does not make mistake. Our diversity is what drives us forward, we should live, work together in peace and harmony, work as brothers and sisters as the purpose of leadership is the happiness of the governed.’’
He said, in Katsina there is a committee that has been working with the board adding that “you  shall work with that committee and we shall strengthen  it to assist our Christian brothers to benefit from the activities of government.  We will do all we can to help out. The committee should link up and take deliberate steps to ensure smooth operation.’’
He said, no doubt Nigeria at this stage needs prayers, whether at home, Mecca or Jerusalem.
“It’s very important and we must sympathize with the leaders of the country and continue to pray for them because we need peace and must pray for that so that we can aspire to achieve what we need to achieve.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of the Board, John Kennedy Okpara said they were in the state to sensitize the people and the government on the need of using pilgrimage as a tool for moral and spiritual transformation that will help drive the nation forward.
He said both religion preaches peace and harmony as such the pilgrimage will enable working  together in peace with their Muslim counterpart just as he appealed to government to assist those who are spiritually  rich but not economically buoyant to pay and go.
