Katsina PDP: Senator Tsauri kicks as faction suspends him

A former national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Senator, Umar Ibrahim Tsauri, has kicked against his suspension by a faction of the party.

Tsauri said by virtue of his position as a member of the National executive Committee of the party, only the national Committee has the power to suspend him after due diligence in accordance with the provisions of the party.

Daily Trust reports that the Tsauri ‘A’ ward executive committee of the PDP at its sitting of 13th Sept. 2024 had suspended the former Senator pending the outcome of the disciplinary committee set up to investigate him on alleged misconduct.

The allegations include “anti-party activities, un-guarded utterances against the national leadership of the party and actions and associations capable of embarrassing and bringing the party to disrepute.”

A letter addressed to the Kurfi local government party chairman said the suspension was in line with provision of article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution which empowers ward Party executives to take disciplinary action against erring members.

Public Relations Officer 2 of the party in Katsina, Lawal Dan Ade, said the letter of suspension was transmitted to the state headquarters of the party and a committee was formed to with the view to inviting Senator Tsauri and giving him the chance to defend himself against the allegations.

However, Tsauri said though the letter was not addressed to him, he saw it on the social media and that due process was not followed in taking any disciplinary action against him if at all he has committed any offence.

“We know the reason why they are doing all these and it is only because we said we did not recognise the caretaker committee that conducted the congresses that brought these people and we still don’t recognise them and as you all know, the matter is before a competent court of law,” he said.
