Katsina lifts ban on GSM network

Katsina State government says it has lifted the ban on mobile telecommunications network service in the state.

In a telephone conversation, the Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Masari on Security Matters, Ibrahim Ahmed Katsina, said the state lifted the ban in response to calls of the citizens regarding the ban.

“The governor has written to the Minister of Communications informing him of the decision. It is therefore left to the service providers to restore their services,” he said.

Katsina said the affected areas had started witnessing relative peace.

“As I speak to you, network has been restored in some local government areas and the restoration followed the success recorded as a result of the ban and there is need for people to return to normal life,” he said.

He however advised the people not to be complacent but continue to be vigilant by reporting any suspicious movement. He appealed to the people to continue to be patient and cooperate with the Masari administration in its efforts to restore normalcy in the state.

Daily Trust had earlier reported how CSOs and residents asked the governor to lift the ban following similar decisions taken in the neighbouring Kaduna and Zamfara states. It could be recalled that the state government gave directives for the ban to be effected in October this year as part of measures to contain insecurity.

The shutdown affected frontline local government areas of Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Kurfi, Danmusa, Dutsin Ma, Kankara, Matazu, Musawa, Funtua, Faskari, Sabuwa, Dandume, Bakori, Danja and Malunfashi.
