Katsina lawmaker weeps on house floor over insecurity

Deputy speaker of Katsina state assembly, Shehu Tafoki, got the nod to address fellow lawmakers and broke into tears talking about rising insecurity in his Faskari constituency.

The area has borne the brunt of bandit attacks, kidnappings and general insecurity.

Last week, five people were killed, a divisional police officer shot and a council chairman kidnapped in multiple attacks on Faskari and Sabuwa.

Tafoki, who represents Faskari at the state assembly, at its special sitting on insecurity in the state said hardly a day went by without reported attack across the area saying that many have been killed, maimed and kidnapped.

According to him, Faskari local government can now be compared to Maiduguri, saying, ” Even last night these bandits attack Daudawa where they kidnapped four people and injured many.”

Daily Trust reports that as Tafoki was making this submission, tears began to floor from his eyes which made him unable to continue and choose to take his sit.

Prior to him, several members have lamented the situation in their respective constituencies.

AbdulJalal Runka (Safana) pleaded for a rollback of the lockdown in the area to enable his constituents, who are daily being attacked and their animals rustled, to sell the remaining animals to at least have something to eat rather than losing them to bandits.

Ibrahim Machika (Sabuwa) said if the present security agents can’t address the security challenge in the state they should be replaced or government should allow the locals to protect themselves.

Also in his submission, Jabiru Yau ( Batsari) called on the federal government to really look into the insecurity in Katsina with a view to addressing it.

About 14 local governments in Katsina are daily recording activities of bandits leading to many death.
