Katsina State Government has expended over N70bilion over the last five years in payment of pensions and gratuities for retirees in the state.
The state Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Idris Usman Tune, made this known on Monday during a media briefing held at Katsina Government House.
He said at the inception of the Masari administration in May 2015, it inherited a backlog of gratuities and death benefits for retirees of the state, local governments, and local education authorities, but at the moment the state had surmounted the problem.
“From June 2015 to August 2020, the state Department of Establishment, Pension and Training has paid a total of N29,621,529,983.19 for both pensions and gratuities, while at the local governments level and local education authorities, a total of N41,370,508,622.26 was expended,” he said.
