Katsina, Dubai Foundation partner to improve eye care

The Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Noor Dubai Foundation on comprehensive eye care programme in the state.

The governor who was represented at the meeting on Tuesday in Abuja by his deputy, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, said the signing of the agreement marked a milestone in the delivery of eye care services to the people of Katsina.

This was contained in a statement in Abuja signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Press Affairs, Ibrahim Musa.

According to him, the aim of the partnership was to improve quality of life and socio-economic status of people in the state through reduction of burden of blindness and visual impairment.

The statement said the deputy governor described the MoU as a collaborative effort to attain universal eye healthcare in Katsina State by the year 2020.

He said based on studies conducted in the state, there is an estimated blindness burden of 45,000, visual impairment of 95,000 and 10,000 irreversibly blind adding that “this partnership couldn’t have come at a better time.”
