Katsina State House of Assembly has mandated its committee on public petition to investigate an alleged encroachment and diversion of grazing land by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Yau Umar Gwajo-gwajo.
The speaker, Tasiu Musa Maigari, announced the resolution after the petition signed by the chairman and secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in the area, Alhaji Lauje and Umar Sani, respectively, were read before the plenary on Wednesday.
The petition was read by the House committee chairman on public petition, Alhaji Abduljalal Haruna Runka, on behalf of the affected communities of Musawa, Karin Labu, Tamaje, Dugunaji and Rowan Kaya with over 10,000 inhabitants.
The petition said the grazing land was meant for some communities in Dutsi Local Government Area of the state communities for irrigation, fishing and feeding their animals.
The petitioners said all efforts to recover the land proved abortive.
The assembly requested the committee to submit its findings in two weeks for further legislative action.
