No fewer than 6,800 women in Katsina State will benefit from the federal government’s cash grant aimed at their empowerment and upliftment.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Safiya Umar Farouk, disclosed this in Katsina on Wednesday, saying over 160,000 women will benefit across the country.
The minister, who was in the state to flag off the distribution of the cash grant, said each of the beneficiaries would receive the sum of N20,000, as part of the social investment project of her ministry to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on poor and vulnerable households.
The minister then enjoined the beneficiaries of the programme to judiciously utilise the opportunity to increase their income, enhance their food security and contribute towards improving their living standard.
In his remarks, the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, represented by his Deputy, QS Mannir Yakubu, thanked the federal government for its numerous social interventions which lifted millions of people out of poverty.
