Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Karaye has emerged the acting president of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
He was unanimously nominated and declared winner after the outgoing president, Micah Jiba, stepped down during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting yesterday.
Karaye who is the chairman of Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State will oversee the affairs of tfhe association as its acting president until the tenure of Micah Jiba which ends next year expires.
The national executives from the six geopolitical zone all supported the nomination of Karaye by the Southern delegates.
Election for a substantive president will be held next year.
Karaya in his acceptance speech commended the outgoing president for voluntarily stepping down.
He called for the support of all the local government chairmen in his bid to reposition the association and champion their cause.
ALGON comprises all local government chairmen in 774 local governments in Nigeria.
