Kano’s CPC boss, Gen. Dambazau ‘escapes’ from custody

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has said that General Idris Bello Dambazau (Rtd), the Managing Director of the state’s Consumer Protection Council, escaped from its custody.

The PCACC acting Chairman, Barrister Màhmoud Balarabe told journalists on Wednesday that Dambazau was being grilled at the commission’s headquarters on Tuesday when he (Dambazau) said he needed to go home and take his medication.

Balarabe said operatives of the commission were then detailed to follow the retired army general to his residence but in the process, he (Dambazau) escaped from their custody.

He said Dambazau had earlier ignored several invitations extended to him by the commission but only turned up on Tuesday after the commission threatened him with arrest.

According to Mr Balarabe, Dambazau was invited to respond to several petitions of corruption allegations against him.

Daily Trust recalls that the state command of the Department of State Services (DSS) also arrested the embattled KCPC boss in late 2021 for alleged economic sabotage but he was subsequently released without any charge filed against him.
