Kano youth flood schools, markets to preach peace

A group of Kano youth have taken the campaign on countering violent extremism among their fellow youth and vulnerable social classes to schools and market places.

They are also holding series of sensitization lectures on the negative aspect of drug abuse and political thuggery that usually leads to violent extremism.

The group’s team leader, Muhammad Garba Mukhtar, said the movement started after the members took part in ‘The White Dove Tech Camp’ organized by Equal Access International, a charity organisation.

He said the rigorous workshop at the camp targeted youth and community activists in both online and offline spaces to strengthen their capacity, reach, and visibility as strategic messengers and influencers in White Dove’s counter violent extremism alternative messaging ecosystem.

The Assistant Team leader, Khadija Muhammad Bello, said, “All the key actors in the fight against thuggery and drug abuse have given us the assurance of their support in the process.

“To us, this is a great achievement, and the youth have been giving us their support in ensuring that these two evil vices have been checked for a better society,” Khadija noted.
