The management of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano (YUMSU) on Friday said it has shortlisted eight candidates who qualified to vie for the position of its vice-chancellor.

The candidates, according to Selection Board will be interviewed on 29th and 30th September, 2020 at the Council Chamber of the university.

YUMSU confirmed the development in a statement made available to Daily Trust also said the shortlisted candidates were selected from different applicants from various institutions and academic fields after advertising to fill the vacant position.

“The process was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic, while the tenure of the former Vice Chancellor came to an end on May 17, this year,” YUMSU said in the statement.

The shortlisted candidates include Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji from Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Professor Bako El-Yakub Jibril and Professor Sadiq Z. Abubakar from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Professors Ali Tijjani Abdullahi and Lawal Alhassan Bichi from Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

Others include Professor Mukhtar A. Kurawa, the Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Professor Balarabe A. Jakada, Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, Professor Aliyu Musa of YUMSU.

Meanwhile, the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello has assumed duty.

Bello, the immediate past BUK VC, was appointed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state shortly after completing his five-year tenure.

The new Pro-Chancellor promised to carry everybody along and asked members of the university community to support his bid of moving it forward.
