A Kano-based tricycle rider, who returned items forgotten by passengers inside his tricycle has been showered with cash gifts amounting to N600,000.
Bashir Muhammad, known as Bashir Itata, took passengers who were visiting the city to attend a 4-day international conference from Bayero University Kano to a motor park some kilometers away from the Hotoro area of the state.
Determined to return the items, Bashir traced his passengers to the venue of the conference the next day.
“We were returning to Jigawa after attending yesterday’s session and boarded his tricycle from the old BUK site to the motor park at Hotoro.

“I accidentally left souvenir bags containing documents and few personal belongings inside the commercial tricycle. The MC announced that our items were brought back, so we came forward to claim them,” the owner of the items, Sani Bala, explained.
Bashir’s act of sincerity took everyone by surprise at the 47th international conference of the Chemical Society of Nigeria held at the Mahmoud Tukur Theater in Bayero University Kano.
Following the master of ceremony’s commendation of Bashir, several attendees of the event gave him various cash gifts announced by the MC totaling about N600,000.
Speaking, Bashir said, “I only came here to search for the owner of the items but the way I was received greatly surprised me. I never expected to get so much as I have returned very valuable items in the past but was not received like this.
“I am happy for doing this. Some gave me cash and others collected my account number and I thank them so much. I want to use this medium to encourage my fellow tricycle riders to cultivate the habit of returning forgotten items or at least taking the items to a radio station to be announced.”
