Speaking at the opening ceremony of a training workshop on Agro Processing (food preservation technology and post harvest infrastructure) in Kano, Alhaji Ado disclosed that about N250 million has been set aside in the 2010 budget for this goal.
The Director General further stated that besides this set of trainees, another batch of 3000 youths will resume training in the area of poultry farming, fish farming and livestock production in 18 local government councils of the state this week, noting that this set of 100 youths will be trained in post harvest preservation and handling, adding that on the completion of their training, they will be assisted with the tools of trade in their areas of specialization.
He said that prior to the current youth training programme across the state, the young men and women had completed a behavioural orientation course designed to positively change their behaviour and prepare them ahead of the challenges in the programme.The DG who is a Special Adviser to Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, maintained that 50 percent of the empowerment programme is dedicated to the agricultural sector, saying the present administration is committed to returning isyouths to agriculture.
