Kano to represent Nigeria in int’l Maths competition

This was disclosed when the staff and students of the school visited the Kano State Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Musa Salihu, in his office to brief him on the success recorded by the school during the 2009/2010 academic session.

The students, Muhammed Bukar and Henry Aniobi, will team up with four other Nigerian students to compete at the international scale selected from other secondary schools after a 3-step competition.

Briefing the commissioner further, the school’s principal, Mr. Orhan Kertim, said the school had participated  in International Science Olympiad (ISO) where it won a gold medal. He also said the school won a silver medal during the Pan African Mathematics Olympiad.

Others include emerging as one of the winners during the Ecobank children essay competition, first position at the Cowbell Mathematics Competition in both senior and junior categories which were all held during the academic year.

Also speaking, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Musa Salihu, congratulated the school for the achievements, saying, it has done pride to the state and the nation in general. He called on the students to study and pray hard in preparations for the July competition.

Salihu further urged them to consider themselves lucky for the talent and wisdom bestowed on them by God Almighty. He also said the state will continue to collaborate with privates schools while on the other hand, it is doing its best to upgrade public ones.
